About ZIA & The Author

Zero Intelligence Agents started as a place for me to “think out loud,” about research topics, and has evolved into an active exchange of ideas about the  convergence of national security, the social sciences and technology.  As the author, my goals are to share my ideas, highlight new research and possibly develop new tools along the way.

Before entering the PhD program in political science at New York University, I worked for four years in Washington, DC as a research and analytical consultant for the intelligence and defense communities.  During this time I developed a passion for understanding national security issues within the framework of social science.  While working in the intelligence community I was also introduced to the power of and properties of social networks, and readers will note a network perspective running through many of the topics covered here at ZIA.

In addition to writing articles here, my work has also been featured at WIRED’s Danger Room blog and the Complex Terrain Lab.  I am also the organizer for the New York R Statistical Programming Meetup, a code contributor to the NetworkX network analysis package for Python, and the creator of PyVote, a pure Python  agent-based modeling framework for political science problems.

Thank you for visiting, and I hope you enjoy the discussion.
