I want to direct your attention to a joint article written by Joshua Foust (former Human Terrain Systems analysts and Afghanistan expert), Thomas Zeitzoff (Politics PhD student at NYU studying the micro-dynamics of conflict), and myself commenting on a recent Nature article describing a common ecology of insurgency.
Our article—appropriately—titled, “A comment on ‘Common ecology quantifies human insurgency’,” combines some of the comments I have made previously on this research, with the technical and substantive expertise of my co-authors. I want to thank Joshua for posting this at his excellent blog Registan.net, which provides some of the best analysis of Central Asia I have seen. If it is not in your RSS, I highly recommend you remedy that.
