Moonlighting with a Duck

This is a classic good news/bad news situation. First, the bad news.

The Duck of Mineriva, one of the best scholarly international relations blogs out there, is losing three key contributors this summer. Charli Caprpenter, Assistant Professor of Political Science at UMass Amherst, is taking a temporary leave of absence to embark on a cross-country driving tour with her family. Meanwhile, Dan Nexon, Assistant Professor in Georgtown’s School of Foreign Service, and Peter Howard, Assistant Professor at American University’s School of International Service, are both taking extended leaves to pursue policy work in Washington. This creates a gapping intellectual hole in the blogosphere, and as a huge Duck fan I for one will sorely miss these authors’ contributions.

There is, however, a proverbial silver lining to this cloud. In an attempt to fill these gaps, the authors of Duck of Minerva reached out to several bloggers in the IR space to be guest bloggers. In a risky leap of faith, they have asked me to join this team. I am thrilled by this opportunity, and quite frankly humbled by the stable of authors that have been brought on. To say that my accomplishments pale in comparison to these scholars’ is an insult to the hue. From the announcement at Duck, here is a listing of my fellow guest bloggers:

  • Craig Hayden blogs at Intermap; he holds a PhD from the Annenberg School at the University of Southern California and is currently an Assistant Professor at the School of International Studies at American University (more info here).
  • Daniel McIntosh blogs at Liberty/Security; he is an Associate Professor at Slippery Rock University where he works on some pretty cool stuff related to international security and international political economy(more info here).
  • Laura Sjoberg received her PhD from the University of Southern California, and is currently transitioning to a new job at the University of Florida. For information on her lengthy and growing list of publications, you can check out her personal website or her page at the University of Florida.

I will be cross-posting most articles I publish at Duck on ZIA as well, though I may insert a few DoM exclusives (stay tuned). I am hoping to have my first cross-post up tomorrow or Thursday, but until then, I would like to thank the authors of Duck of Minerva for bringing me onboard!
